Lindsay Brothers Warehouse

Warehouse

The Lindsay Brothers Warehouse started it's life as a farm implement warehouse in 1895. It later became a storage warehouse and today it's been turned into an apartment building.

The most striking features of this building are the corbelled (slightly flaring outwards) cornice and the slightly gothic arches that surround the windows. In both of the large buildings that Harry Wild Jones designed that still stand, both of these features are present. This building was the first of the two, and with the red bricks and rusticated stone treatments, it is strikingly beautiful. His other building, the Butler Square Building is much larger and was built with a different colored and textured brick. I think that because of this, these features are not as readily apparent.

Like many buildings of this vintage, it has been modified since it was built. In 1909, another floor was added to the top of the building, putting the cornice one floor below. As additions go, this one is fairly tasteful, and doesn't do much damage to the building's overall look.
