I'm an aspiring photographer. I'll admit it. I love to take photographs. I've read a couple of books--I have just enough knowlege to be dangerous. I really should learn more about the art of photography and I could very well get obsessive about developing and other such, but right now I have too many hobbies, and so for now I'll use photography as a means to an end. The ends being documentation, display, archiving and supplying content for my website.

I'll take a shot anywhere, doing just about anything. A favorite time to shoot of mine is when I'm driving.

This shot was taken in Mahtomedi, Minnesota the first year I was driving a school bus. This was just one of the many sucky days I had to drag my ass out of bed and drive your little monsters to school.
This wasn't the worst day I had to drive, just one of the prettiest
Imagine driving a 14 ton bus in this weather while trying to keep 50 kids from killing each other. Now imagine having to do that with your back to the kids. While driving. Does anyone ever wonder why we can't find qualified school bus drivers?

When you're out on the road alone, life can get very focussed. I had a job for several summers that had me traveling around the eastern half of the U.S.. It was fun work (sorta), but the fringe benefit is that I got to drive a new vehicle to places I'd never seen before. That is quite a perk. Unfortunately, after about 9 weeks of driving around rootless and either sleeping in the van or in hot-sheet motels, one could get a bit burnt out. Did I mention lonely? I really focussed in on work to try to beat any lonely feelings I had. At the time I had a girlfriend, two cars, a motorcycle, my friends, my own apartment and a life waiting for me back in Minnesota, but in this shot I found myself somewhere in central Kentucky. I'd been out on the road for about 9 weeks and had another 2 or three to go. I had just slept a night in a truckstop and was waking up to the fog and sun. A revival(!) meeting nearby had kept me from sleeping much and the sight of this sunrise was just about too much to bear.
the trucks are leaving the truckstop and the sun has just crested the mountain range to the East. Let's get to work!
I needed a shower, food and some company. I got a shower, some biscuits and gravy and then just took the rest of the day off. To heck with it. If you see a sunrise like this, it's nature's way of telling you to think about stuff...So I did.

I caught this picture just as dawn was breaking and I had just pulled into the bus yard's lot. It's peaceful, slightly fuzzy and quite a fetching picture.
It was cold and early.
