Al's Breakfast
In Minneapolis, there's an area just to the North of the University of Minnesota East Bank Campus called Dinkytown. The origin
of the name remains something of a mystery, but that's not what this page is about. It's about Al's Breakfast.

This is Al's Breakfast.
Al's is a little diner that serves a very diverse clientele. When I say little, I mean 14 seats in the whole place. There's
just enough space for coats, a line of people waiting and the stools for the people eating. Al's is not a place for the
claustrophobic.
Inside, the air is usually full of the aromas of the food being cooked. There's two grilles. The one in front usually
handles pancakes, waffles, hash browns, hash, and poached eggs. The back grille handles the omeletes. The food is excellent.
The buttermilk pancakes here are the best you're likely to find, anywhere. When cooked they're tangy, dense--they don't rise
much--and delicious. The omelets are wonderful as well. My favorite is The Smokey which as bacon, tomatoes and smokey
cheddar cheese in it. Yummy. Everything they offer is fresh and delicious. Standout items include their Eggs Benedict, hash
browns, bacon waffle, and aforementioned buttermilk pancakes.
They're open from 6 am to 1 pm Monday through Saturday and 9 am to 1 pm on Sunday. Remember not to cut it close to closing time
because if you're even 1 minute late (according to their clock) you're out of luck.
